Bennett Valley Syrah

Bennett Valley produces Syrah that is distinct from any other wine growing region.

There is a style of Bennett Valley Syrah that expresses the unique climate and terrain of our “valley in the mountains.” When a wave of interest in Rhône varietals swept across Northern California in the ‘90s, some Bennett Valley growers were intrigued, and began experimenting with the cool-climate cultivation for these varietals.

 

One by one, these growers came to the same conclusion: above all others it was the Syrah that had something unique and special in its character.

“In 2003, when I returned from the Northern Rhone to Sonoma County, I was determined to find vineyards that would allow me to express the nuance and beauty of the Northern Rhone syrah I had become accustomed to drinking.  I knew California’s terroir would create fruit forward wines, but what I sought was more complexity.  I found my solution in Bennett Valley.”

Dark fruits abound in the nose and on the palate, but it is nuances of spice, savory meats, rich tapenade and spring flowers that truly distinguishes Bennett Valley Syrah from other regions.
